As the english pages are no longer getting updated please refer to the french side of this site for all dogs available for adoption!

Please send through feedback on any contact you have had with the refuge - good or bad! - by e-mail to the address on the 'How to contact us' page.  This is invaluable to us

Welcome to ‘Les Chiens de Figeac' website and we hope this visit will encourage you to get more involved in one way or another and that it will be just one of many visits you, or your friends and family, will make!

The Figeac dog refuge, tucked up and away out of sight next to the town tip, is run by the association ‘MASAQ', (Le Mouvement Associatif de Sauvegarde des Animaux dans le Quercy, N° Siret 408 233 732 00010) and was started up in 1988, formed under the french law of 1901.

Until 2005 it was an eyesore and first impressions were of a shanty town for dogs with old & battered wooden kennels of all sizes & shapes scattered about on the dirt floor. The majority of these were within a fenced enclosure but many were outside of this security and open to the road. Reception facilities were non-existent.

At last in 2005, the commune of Figeac funded the re-development of the site and at least now the environment for the dogs, workers and visitors is much improved - cleaner, safer and more suitable generally.

The Figeac commune provides funding to a minimal level towards the costs of keeping the dogs that the refuge takes in but the association needs help to increase fund raising in order to make further improvements needed and also to increase awareness of the refuge with the aim of improving the adoption rate. There is no connection to the ‘SPA', the French RSPCA equivalent, so no public donations to them come our way.

Please read on! See how you can help. Look at the dogs seeking new homes and those unlikely to ever be adopted and who can be sponsored. A lot of these dogs have already spent many years with us and many of them could end up remaining at the refuge indefinitely so we try to make their lives as good as we can.

If you can do nothing more please pass on a link for this site to others and should you hear of anyone looking for a dog or a cat please tell them to contact us!
